Who am I?
Hello! My name is Robert Fritsche. I am an aspiring historical fiction author, now blogger, and past attorney currently residing in Tennessee.
What is the blog about?
This blog will consider current events around the world, with a heavy emphasis on the United States, and relate them to events in history. Every other Sunday I plan to compare literature to historical events as well to spice things up. I will do my best to cite sources and provide links for further reading in each post.
Why am I blogging?
I am currently in the process of writing my own historical fiction novel set during the late roman republic. From a young age, I have had a fascination with the history that has only flourished with the years. As many other history content makers have said, I was inspired by two podcasts created by Mike Duncan, The History of Rome and Revolutions. I also have a great appreciation for John Green, co-host of the youtube series Crash Course and distinguished author. However, after reading The Fault in Our Stars, I decided against writing him any fan letters. I hope that I can provide content that will be simultaneously entertaining and enlightening on a regular basis.
Is the title of the blog a reference to I, Claudius?
Yes.
“There are two different ways of writing history, one is to persuade men to virtue and the other is to compel men to the truth. The first is Livy’s way and the other is yours.”
– Claudius (Pg. 122, Robert Graves, I, Claudius).
